Substitute Teaching at Joplin Schools

If you are interested in substitute teaching for Joplin Schools, you must pick up a Substitute Application from the front desk of the Joplin Schools Administration Building, located at 1717 East 15th Street, Joplin, Missouri. Before leaving the building, you will be directed to set up an appointment for an interview.

You will need to bring the completed Substitute Application with you to the interview, along with a college or university transcript showing that you have earned sixty (60) credit hours. If you are a certified teacher or have obtained a Substitute Certificate through another district, you must provide a copy of your certification.

If you are selected to substitute teach and you do not have a valid Missouri certificate, fingerprinting is now required for obtaining a Substitute Certificate. A fee of $52.20 is required for your fingerprints to run through the Missouri Highway Patrol and the FBI. Substitute applicants are asked to pay this fee but are reimbursed after substitute teaching for the district four (4) times.

The daily salary for a substitute teacher is $70.00. When a substitute has taught through their 40th day, starting with the 41st day, and beyond, the salary rate becomes $75.00 per day. When a substitute has taught in the same position for 20 consecutive days, the position will then be classified as a permanent substitute position, and the rate of pay will be equivalent of the daily rate for the Bachelor's first step on the Joplin Schools Salary Schedule.

Payroll dates are the 20th of each month with the 5th day being the cutoff date for calculating the amount each month. Payroll checks will be deposited into the substitute's account.
