How to Apply for iTEK programs:
TLA
Teacher: Technology Leadership Academy (TLA) is an articulated
professional development program that provides teachers with
a strong and consistent pedagogical base using the eMINTS
instructional model (inquiry-based teaching powered by technology).
The program provides Joplin educators with the opportunity
to learn ways to integrate technology into the curriculum
while expanding and refining their technology skills. Additionally,
TLA members become technology leaders in the district and
have opportunities to work with their colleagues to integrate
technology into the curriculum. TLA members receive tools
used to enhance instruction including laptop and SMARTBoard
system. Training consists of intensive professional development
including 25 summer hours and 2 school days. Additionally,
TLA members will participate in a 12 hour study group that
meets outside of the school. (All Staff, Application required).

TLA
Mentor: The TLA mentoring program is for those who have
already completed the Technology Leadership experience. Mentors
will be key individuals in helping new TLA members during
the training process and in their respective buildings as
needed as well as the lead facilitator of TLA Cohort Study
Groups. Mentors will undergo 8 hours of Mentor Training. Mentors
will receive classroom digital camera and digital video camcorder.
In addition, they can either earn a stipend or Career Ladder
during their training process and while facilitating TLA Cohort
Groups. (Must complete TLA prior, Application required). Apply

CIT:
1 or 2 teachers from each building chosen by district Technology
Specialist, to work on curriculum projects that integrate
technology, introduce and support new hardware/software to
building staff, and be key participants in the text book adoption
and implementation process in evaluating technology components
associated with potential series’. The teacher that
takes the initiative to participate in the program will receive
the technology tools needed to teach his/her fellow teachers.
(Must complete TLA prior, Application required). Not
taking applications for CITs at this time.
eJOPLIN
Teacher: In schools implementing the eMINTS instructional
model for school-wide improvement, a subset of eMINTS PD called
eJoplin (eMINTS4All) is available to teachers assigned to
classrooms above and below the grade levels where teachers
involved in eMINTS PD are assigned. eJoplin (eMINTS4All) includes
80+ contact hours over a two-year period. eJoplin participants
utilize the SMARTBoard system and will have access to 4:1
student to computer ratio. (Must complete TLA prior, Application

eMINTS
Teacher:: eMINTS changes how teachers teach and students
learn. Its instructional model provides a research-based approach
to organizing instruction and can be implemented in any subject
area at any level. The eMINTS Comprehensive Professional Development
Program is provided to official eMINTS teachers who have the
full suite of required hardware and software. This two-year
program is comprised of more than *140+ contact hours delivered
face-to-face and online by certified eMINTS Instructional
Specialists who have successfully completed the Professional
Development for Education Technology Specialists (PD4ETS)
program. (Must complete TLA & eJOPLIN prior, Application
required) *eMINTS hours for those applying in the 07-08 school
year will be 250+ hours over 2 year period and teachers will
be chosen from TLA participants. Apply

PD4ETS:
A two-year “train-the-trainer” program designed
to prepare individuals to deliver eMINTS PD and eMINTS4All
to educators in their settings. PD4ETS includes a rigorous
certification process. Intended for school- or district-level
educational technology professional development specialists.
Successful completion of certification process allows participants
to deliver eMINTS PD and eMINTS4All to school or district
educators. (Must complete TLA, eJoplin, & eMINTS prior).

at Joplin Schools. Each of the instructional technology PD
experiences shown below are under the umbrella of iTEK (instructional
Technology Educating Kids) program. We hope for all teachers
to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities that are
offered through technology training. The below pathway will
ensure that foundational aspects needed to integrate technology
effectively in the classroom are met, leading the students
of Joplin Schools to higher levels of achievement and enhancing
their education.
