What is Title 1?

Title 1 is a federal program that is part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, (ESEA). Title 1 provides financial assistance to states and school districts to meet the needs of educationally at-risk students. The goal of Title 1 is to provide extra instructional services to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.


What is the Purpose of Title 1 Schools?

It provides extra help for struggling students.  Children living in a Title 1 school are eligible for extra assistance regardless of family income.


What Does Title 1 Pay For?

Title 1 funds provide interventions to supplement core instruction. Title 1 funds do not replace core instruction.


Parent Involvement Policy

The policy explains how the school district or the school itself supports the important role of parents in the education of their children.


Title 1 Annual Meeting

A fall and spring meeting for parents informing them of the Title 1 plan, Title 1 requirements, and parents’ rights.


School-Parent Compact

The parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title 1 agree that in this compact it outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

Description of Curriculum and Assessments

Parents are given explanations of curriculum and assessments for the district and school attended by student(s).


Parents Right to Know-Teacher and Paraprofessional Qualifications

Evidence letter from Federal Programs is sent to all families verifying teacher and paraprofessional qualifications.


Parents Right to Know Non-Highly Qualified Teacher Notification

Evidence letter from Federal Programs is sent to all families notifying them of a non-highly qualified teacher.


School Report Cards

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education compiles an annual report card for each district and building. Parents and concerned patrons are encouraged to use this report to identify and explore important statistics about the Joplin School District.


Reporting Achievements to Parents

Parents are informed about progress toward Title 1 goals.


Parent Involvement Reports

Evidence of each parent event held where Title 1 funds are spent.
