Elementary Transfer Permits Accepted Starting June 4th
The Joplin School District will begin taking elementary in-district transfer permits on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 7:30 a.m. at the Roi S. Wood Administration Building (1717 E. 15th Street) through July 31, 2008. On August 1, 2008, permits will be issued by the school building offices. A permit allows a student in the Joplin School District to attend another Joplin school located outside the student's assigned attendance zone. Permits are granted based upon available space at the receiving school.
Attendance Zone Change
Parents/guardians are asked to verify their child's assigned elementary attendance zone on the district's boundary map for the 2008-2009 school year, as there has been a boundary change for the upcoming school year. Beginning in August 2008, elementary students living in the area south of 32nd street and east of Business Hwy. 71 will be within the expanded Stapleton Elementary attendance zone. This area was previously zoned for Emerson Elementary School. Additionally, because Stapleton Elementary feeds students into Memorial Middle School, middle school students living in this area will now be within the Memorial Middle School sending zone instead of the South Middle School sending zone.
Due to this attendance zone change:
- Elementary students living in the area south of 32nd street and east of Business Hwy. 71 who previously secured a permit to transfer from Emerson Elementary to Stapleton Elementary will no longer need to do so.
- Elementary students living in the area south of 32nd street and east of Business Hwy. 71 who wish to attend a school other than Stapleton Elementary must secure an in-district transfer permit to do so.
- Middle school students living in the area south of 32nd street and east of Business Hwy. 71 who previously secured a permit to transfer from South Middle School to Memorial Middle School will no longer need to do so.
- Middle school students living in the area south of 32nd street and east of Business Hwy. 71 who wish to attend South Middle School or North Middle School must secure an in-district transfer permit to do so.
