Franklin Technology Center (FTC) will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, September 7th at 8:30 a.m. to celebrate the addition of a Leadership Training Center near the school. When complete, the Leadership Training Center will include a low ropes course and pavilion.
“These types of courses have been proven for over 20 years to be highly successful for training students and employees,” says FTC Assistant Director Steve Reed. “The facility will be used for leadership training and team building events for SkillsUSA members. It will also be available for other career and technical organizations, ROTC, and other classes and staff.”
Funding for the project is provided by a $10,000 educational grant awarded to FTC’s SkillsUSA chapter by the Lowe’s Charitable & Educational Foundation (LCEF) and the National SkillsUSA organization. FTC was one of just 20 schools nationwide to be chosen for the grant this year.
“Stipulations of the grant put the project on a short time schedule,” says Reed. “The project could not begin until September 1 and must be completed by November 30, 2007. Therefore, many of the programs at Franklin Tech will be instrumental in the development of this site.”
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. Over 450 Franklin Technology Center students are members of SkillsUSA this year alone.
