FTC pre-engineering instructor Deonna Anderson was named the 2004-2005 State Teacher of the Year at the Missouri Trade and Technical Association’s (MTTA) annual meeting in Springfield, Missouri this summer. MTTA is a subsection of the Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education (MoACTE) in conjunction with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
Each year, the MTTA Teacher of the Year award is given to the most outstanding career and technical educator who has made significant contributions or has achieved prominence in their field. To be considered, educators must have five years of teaching experience and must be members of the MTTA branch.
Mrs. Anderson is beginning her tenth year at Franklin Technology Center. During her time at FTC, she has worked with an advisory committee to modify her curriculum in an effort to meet industry needs and student population. The changes have resulted in increased enrollment and student enjoyment.
“Her ability to get things done has made technical education in her department not only exciting to the students, but worthwhile as well,” said Steve Reed, FTC Special Services Coordinator.
In addition to teaching at FTC, Mrs. Anderson is the school’s lead advisor for over 450 students through SkillsUSA – a leadership organization that assists students in developing their technical, employability, and citizenship skills.
While providing quality technical education to students, Mrs. Anderson also serves as an impressive mentor to fellow teachers. “Her dedication and enthusiasm for the teaching profession have inspired others,” said Reed. “Mrs. Anderson loves teaching, and it shows.”
