Sexson Named Principal of East Middle School for 2010-2011
The Joplin School District has named James “Bud” Sexson as the new principal of East Middle School for the 2010-2011 school year. The Board of Education voted unanimously to approve Sexson’s appointment on April 21.
“Mr. Sexson brings a tremendous amount of experience and expertise to the district,” says Dr. C.J. Huff, Superintendent of Joplin Schools. “He has a wealth of knowledge in numerous areas related directly to district initiatives already underway. He will make a great addition to our administrative team.”
Sexson has served in various educational leadership positions at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, including ten years as principal of Madison Middle School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. During his time there, Sexson led the faculty in their transformation into an effective Professional Leaning Community.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts Education from Oklahoma State University and a Master’s Degree in Education from Northeastern State University. He is a member of several education related professional organizations including the National Association of Secondary School Principals and was a finalist for State Assistant Principal of the Year in 1991.
“I feel honored to be joining the family of teachers and students and parents of East Middle School,” says Sexson. “I am so impressed by the obvious commitment of the Joplin community to young adolescents and their growth and development. I am very anxious to begin working with the staff at East and learning about everything they do for their kids. I can hardly wait until August to start working!”
Sexson will replace Ron Mitchell who has accepted a position in another Missouri district. Sexson will begin his leadership position at East Middle School in the fall.
