School Announcements

  • The last PTO meeting will be on May 7th at 6:00 p.m. in the Irving Library.  This will be our annual meeting for the 2015-2016 School PTO Officers.  Below you will find the description of each of the offices.  If you are planning on running for an office, you must be present at the meeting.  If you have any questions regarding the duties of the officers, please contact the current PTO President Kendra Keller.  

    Duties of Executive Officers

    1. President or Co-Presidents

    1.  The President of the organization shall also be the Chairperson(s) of the Executive Board and shall preside at all meetings of the organization. The President or Co-Presidents shall prepare an agenda for all meetings and be responsible for the continuity of leadership.

    2.  The President shall assure the organizations cooperation with the school Principal, staying within the polices of the Joplin Board of Education or any school administrative directive, and assuring that the objectives set forth in these bylaws are followed.

    3. The President shall be responsible for requesting that a Teacher Representative be selected to represent the faculty at the monthly PTO general meetings. There will also be another Teacher Representative selected to serve as an alternate.  

    4.  The President shall serve on the Joplin PTO Executive Council.

    1. Vice President

    The Co-Vice President shall serve, as aide to the President or Co-Presidents and shall preside in their absence should they be unable to attend meetings. In a Co-President situation, the Executive Board can vote for the Vice President to assume the Co-Presidency and elect a new Vice President, or leave the existing President and Vice President in their current offices. One of the Vice Presidents shall be willing to be considered a candidate for election to the Presidency following the President’s term of office.

    1. Secretary

    The Secretary shall record and report the minutes of all meetings of the organization and of the Executive Board and shall perform other assigned duties. If unable to attend the meeting, the Secretary shall make arrangements with another member to record and report minutes. The Secretary shall carefully preserve the meeting records and shall submit those records to an elected successor.

    1. Treasurer

    1. The Treasurer shall attend each meeting and present a financial report of the PTO. If unable to attend, the Treasurer will make arrangements with another member to present the report. The Treasurer shall receive all monies of the organization; shall keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures; and shall pay all invoices and previously approved expenses authorized by the Executive Board.

    2. The Treasurer is responsible for assuring the PTO’s funds are secure and maintained under dual control.  The Treasurer shall obtain check writer’s signature cards and shall assure that proper signatures are obtained.  The Treasurer shall carefully maintain and preserve all financial records of the organization and shall convey those records to an elected successor.

    3. The counting of money should be done by at least two Executive Board Members. All checks should be designated for the purpose of expenditures. The source of all money should be designated. Money should be deposited immediately.

    4.  Reimbursements made only if coordinating amount of legitimate receipts are given.

  • All library books or fines are due by May 8th, 2015. If your child has a book or fine past that date, they will not be allowed to participate with their class during the free Big Bash Celebration, which is scheduled for May 13th.

  • Our Fundraiser Big Bash Celebration is May 13, 2015. Students who earned the Big Bash with fundraiser sales will jump from 8:30-9:30. Then all classes will get a 30 minute time frame to celebrate the end of the year if all of their library items are turned in. For specific class times, check out our Irving Facebook page.

  • Today, April 9th, we are going to cancel our 4th grade field trip today to Springfield for Operation College Bound.  We will try to reschedule this field trip.  It is not the weather in Joplin that we are concerned with, but the forecast in Springfield.

  • This year's fifth grade class is invited to attend an Open House at South Middle School on Tuesday, April 14th from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

  • This Wednesday, March 25th, is spring picture day.We will also be taking class pictures. 5th grade students will have pictures taken with a cap and gown for 5th grade graduation.

  • Kindergarten registration will be held at all elementary schools in the district March 23-27 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and on Tuesday, March 24, from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. We can't wait to meet your little Eagles! Find more information at www.joplinschools.org/kindergartenroundup.

    Irving students are collecting canned food items from January 19th, 2015-February 1st, 2015 to benefit Crosslines.  Whichever team collects the most canned goods gets a pie in the face! Mrs. Vance is representing the Seahawks and Mrs. Mertens is representing the Patriots.

  • Does your child have an outstanding teacher? If so, nominate them for the HOOT (Honoring Our Outstanding Teachers) column in the Joplin Globe!
    Here are the details:
    1) Teachers can be nominated from any subject in Pre-K through 12th grade.
    2) Teachers can be nominated by administration, staff, parents, students – we like to keep it a secret until the paper comes out.
    3) Email the following to kmcculley@joplinglobe.com :
    name of teacher, school building, district, subject taught, nominating person’s name and relationship to teacher, and text of why he/she should be nominated (in 75 words or less).

    Each nominated teacher will receive $20 Casey’s gas certificates/cards and free ticket to Titanic Museum in Branson, MO!

  • Our Student Council organized a food drive to benefit Watered Gardens. In one week Irving students brought in a total of 764 cans! Thank you Irving Eagles for paying it forward! Our fifth grade brought in the most items and will be rewarded with a donut party! STUCO FOOD DRIVE

  • Student Council is hosting a food drive for Watered Gardens between the days of Tuesday, October 28th and Tuesday,  November 4th. The grade level with the most donated items will win a donut party, courtesy of Mrs. Vance. Please help your child's grade win by sending non-perishable items with them to school. Thank you for your help with this great cause!
