Joplin Schools is pleased to announce Dr. Stephen Gilbreth as the new principal of Joplin High School. As a lifetime resident of Joplin and a 1978 Parkwood graduate, Gilbreth believes and is fully committed to the education of Joplin students. He will be transitioning to JHS from his current role as the Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services, where he has dedicated the past two years to enriching and enhancing Joplin Schools curriculum. Gilbreth shared, “I’ve always been committed to doing what’s best for kids and it drives my decisions every day. The role of a principal is critical and my passion for Joplin Schools led me to this decision. My hope is my leadership style will match the needs of Joplin High School.”

“This is a win for Joplin High School. We all know Dr. Gilbreth’s heart for students and his humble spirit of servant leadership. He is the perfect choice to continue strong student/parent connections, alongside proven instructional practice and administrative skill,” stated Dr. Moss, superintendent.

“My goal is to continue to be a servant leader, where I can help teachers reach their greatest potential so they can in turn impact the lives of every student in their classroom. I’m excited to begin my journey as the principal of Joplin High School,” commented Dr. Gilbreth.

Gilbreth started his education career in 1996-1997, where he taught for five years at North Middle School. He moved up as the assistant principal at North, where he served for three years before becoming the principal of Memorial Middle School for the next six years. Gilbreth transitioned to South Middle School, continuing to serve as principal for another six years. In 2017, he became the Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services, where he’s served the past two years. Gilbreth received his bachelors of English education from Missouri Southern State University. His masters in administration and educational specialist degrees were obtained from Pittsburg State University. Gilbreth received his doctoral degree from St. Louis University.

Gilbreth will begin his new role at Joplin High School on July 1, 2019. Congratulations Dr. Gilbreth and Joplin Schools, we are fortunate to have your leadership continue to impact our students!
