Welcome to 5th Grade!
Dear Parents,
I am very excited to have your child in my class and to share an important part of their learning experience!
This year, your child will be part of a new time in the Joplin R-8 School District. Your child has stepped through the door of an eMINTS classroom – a class that merges technology into all curricular areas and assignments. Your child will experience hands on technology learning each and every day. It is an exciting experience for all of us! Your child will be bringing home a computer contract and waiver that you must sign and return. This will allow your child to use the computer. Please be on the lookout for this within the next few days.
We are very blessed again this year in regards to our school supplies. St. Johns Hospital has purchased all of our school supplies for each child. However, anything you have purchased will no go to waste! Save them for later in the school year, as your child will most likely need them.
If you would like to donate additional items for the classroom to use, it would be greatly appreciated! Items we need are pencils, baby wipes, extra Kleenex and Ziploc bags of all sizes. Thank you in advance!
Please do not let your child bring the following items to school: school supply boxes (I provide them), permanent markers, toys, makeup, candy, cell phones, etc.
If your child is celebrating a birthday, store bought treats are allowed for the class. Please contact me prior to the date so I can give you an approximate time and number of students.
Parent involvement is an important part of the success of your child. There will be weekly reading activities where you will be asked to help your child. If you are unavailable, another adult can help your student as well. You will find my contact numbers at the bottom of this letter as well as my email address. If I am not available when you call, the secretary will take a message and I will call you back as soon as I can. Parent communication is very important!
From time to time, I will be sending book orders home with your child. This is a great way to inexpensively build a home library for your child, and we get free items to use in the classroom. When paying, please make checks out to the book company.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at school. I look forward to working with each of you.
Sincerely,
Denise R. Legore
